Prevention of Sewer System blockages and how to handle one if blockage occurs.
DO NOT pour grease down sinks and garbage disposals, or any other drains. Grease is a major contributor of blockages. Also, DO NOT flush wipes, cat litter, diapers, sanitary napkins, newspapers, rags, paper towels, prescription drugs, oil, paint, solvents or other chemicals down sewer lines. DO NOT plant trees with shallow root systems near any lateral. Tree roots seek water and will penetrate cracks in the line and trap materials. If a blockage happens, first see if it is occurring in multiple areas or just one. If just your kitcken sink is clogged or a toilet will not flush, then please call your local plumber and turn off inside water. If you are not sure where the blockage is then call (814)-339-6504 Ext 01 and the Plant Operator will come and inspect the main line. If the blockage is in the main line then the Plant Operator will remove the blockage. If the blockage occurs in the property owners lateral or interior plumbing then the Plant Operator will inform the property owner of the findings. The property owner is then responsible for the removal and your local plumber needs to be contacted.
